About Mawsmai Cave

Mawsmai Cave is one of the most accessible and visually stunning limestone caves in Meghalaya. Stretching approximately 150 metres, the cave is lit throughout and features dramatic stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years — some resembling animals, deities, or abstract sculptures.

The cave passage narrows at certain points, requiring visitors to crouch and squeeze through — adding a thrilling, adventurous element to the experience. The cool, damp air inside creates a mystical atmosphere, with light refracting off the wet limestone surfaces.

Mawsmai is ideal for families and first-time cave visitors. For more adventurous spelunking, longer and undeveloped caves nearby (such as Krem Liat Prah — one of the longest caves in Asia) are available with specialist guides.
