Nohkalikai Falls
About Nohkalikai Falls
Nohkalikai Falls is the tallest plunge waterfall in India, dropping approximately 340 metres (1,115 ft) into a gorgeous emerald-green pool below. Located near Cherrapunji — one of the wettest places on Earth — the falls are at their most spectacular during and after monsoon season.
The name 'Nohkalikai' translates to 'Jump of Ka Likai' — rooted in a local legend of a tragic woman named Likai who leapt from the cliff after a heartbreaking discovery. The story adds a haunting beauty to the already awe-inspiring landscape.
The viewpoint offers panoramic views of the falls and the gorge below. On clear days, you can also see the Bangladesh plains stretching to the horizon. Multiple viewpoints are accessible within a short walk from the parking area.
